took the Thallys (high-speed train) from Amsterdam to Brussels. 1st class . . .
a modest, continental brekky . . . nice . . .
Found the hotel near the train station . . . it's ONLY positive attribute. then started the walkabout . . .
Belgain Waffles as expected . . .
the pissing cherub, a symbol of Brussels . . .
I guess if it was Cerny, he'd be pissing on Europe . . . 8^) . . .
the old square is gold trimmed and very ornate . . .
unlike the rest of the town which is remarkable for the lack of ornamentation on the buildings . . .
Tin Tin Museum
we stopped for lunch here . . . more about that later . . .
mainly because it looked interesting, had no busker out front harranging passers-by, unlike the other restaurants, and it had a michelin 2013 button on the window.
god how I love public art
there's these statues in the park,
an ancient greco-roman bust
put on a very ordinary, crudely stylized body
and identical toes on each-and-all
then there was this among some others, very heavily weathered . . . .
we enjoyed this portion of our walk very much . . .
even up the hill to the government buildings . . .
the view is wide, if not so awesome . . .
but the walk home, after dark, thru the sketchy neighborhoods back to the sketchy neighborhood by the hotel was edgy.
