Breakfast Buffet at Holiday Inn, Madrid

just fyi, ffr, fwiw . . .
this buffet cost more than the lunch at Pecera . . . was good, but not THAT good . . .

Circle de las Artistes, Madrid

The friendly barrista at Starbux sent us over to the Circle de las Artistes for the roof top view of Madrid . . .

we feel that Madrid lacks a certain something that say Barcelona has, vista wise . . . if you know what I mean . . .
then, since there was no food on the roof, instead of walking anywhere else for late lunch, we just went into the cafe Pecera on the ground floor . . . what a lucky break that was, the place is fantastico . . . service is a little snooty and slow, but no matter, totally worth it .  . .

the art around is sooooooo european . . . if you know what I mean . . . .8^D . . .

we were already peckish, and it was a pleasant surprise when they brought us some little sausages & bread while we waited for our legally mandated fixe prie luncheon . . . I tried to order sangria, but wound up with a bottle of red, instead . . . included in the meal . . . no problem . . .

mrs got a bowl of gazpacho. . . very flavourful, but so thin it was like bloody mary mix . . . 8^D

I had some pollo paella . . . I think thats funny .  . . I didn't think it was as funny when Mrs kept stealing bites of mine in between sips of hers . . . 8^D

we had a little wait between courses . . . it was a madhouse of holiday family parties in there . . .but our wait was more comfortable than those still waiting for a table  . . . 8^D

for my second platter I had a small lamb shank . .  .couldn't have been better

Mrs had some fish cooked with capers -- those spanish capers are a seriously beneficial addition to dishes, they bring a lot of savour to any dish . . .

loved this place . .. seriously doubt that Antonio Banderas or Pedro Almodovar ever shows up anymore . . . that's like looking for Hemingway on the left bank . . . 8^D

La Buca del Lobo, Madrid

went to La Buca del Lobo on purpose based on our Lonely Planet guide . . .

what a funky, fun place . . .

mrs loves her vegetables, whether on the plate or in a soup . . .

I had a citrus salad, very nice, similar but different from ones we had in france . . . interesting. . .

we still don't knwo what hese amuse bouche were . . .

I had a very amazing roasted peppers with fish dish . . . not too spicy, but noticeably warm . . . if you see how I mean . . .

mrs had vegetarian lasagne . . . true, full of vegetables, but not entirely successful . . .

fruit cup and ice cream for dessert . . . ok . . .

Museum, Madrid

Picasso, de Chirico, Frida, Miro, Picasso (out of focus), Beckmann (a personal fave), unknown to me sculpture and painting of a very sensuous sort, what passes for Modern Art . . .

this Picasso, Figures by the Sea, is unfamiliar and awesome . . . a very nice combination, if you know what I mean . . .

and another klee, not known to me . . . 8^)
