Zelena Zahrada - Prague

Oh, it's so incongruous to dine at Zelena Zahrada in the dead of winter, but it's not a mistake, if you see how I mean . . . we'll go back this spring to enjoy the garden that was covered in snow this trip.

we started with Prosecco . . . I could tell it was necessary . . . and thats what we had with our shared starter, the Foie Gras with Cherries . . . very nice, yet somehow disappointing, in that we compare all to our fun in France, in Armagnac, with Foie Gras fresh from the farm next door to our chateau . . . unfair, but there it is . . . just seemed a little oily (as opposed to greasy, if you see how I mean) . . . the cherries were a hoot!

Mrs had one of the nightly specials, a salmon filet served on a bed of lobster risotto buttressed by a raft of asparagus . . . THIS she was entirely happy with, paired with a Rzlink.

I had come for the lamb chops, that I ordered medium rare . . . medium "might" be better . . . with spinach and rosemary potato terrine. I paired with a glass of their cabernet savignon . . . I wished for a syrah (particularly a New Zealand syrah, sniff!) but I would have no complaints as-it-was . . . instead, I would have compliments, of course . . .

Modry Zub - Narodni Trida - Prague

this is the most convenient Thai to our schedule, now in the dead of winter, that over-weighs our considerations of where to eat . . . we find the staff very pleasant and the food beyond reasonable Thai-ness, so we come . . . even tho' they have not always been the most consistent . . .

the case in point: Mrs' Red Curry lacked that dimension of spice (heat & savour) essential to the Thai dining experience. I -- OTOH -- was completely happy with the heat and savour of my Phad Gra Pao Mu . . . those are NOT Thai Peppers, but applied liberally enough, and I can get over the hump, if you see how I mean . . . I love the feeling of endorphins racing thru my blood . . .

I left one red pepper and told the waitress it was Perfekt, except for 1 pepper too many . . . she gave me the usual smile I get from czech waitresses, half-amused and half-confused . . . 8^) . . .

Oh, well, I will never learn . . .

Pind - Prague - Valentines Day

Pind is our favorite Indian restaurant in Prague . . . It might be Mrs' favorite of all . . .

She likes the crispy Pind Pappadam, rather than naan . . . it was gone by the time the food came, tho' . . . dangit . .  . Mrs had her normal Tandoori Murg; I had lamb as usual, but Rogajosh, instead of byriani or vindaloo, and we had black daal instead of yellow and Bangan Barta (eggplant) instead of saag paneer . . .the tandoori is uniformly excellent here, the rogajosh a very satisfying change, the black daal familiar as what is served almost everywhere else, and I would have loved to say the eggplant was Bangin', but it was the least interesting dish on the table. . .

the anise digestive they bring here at the end of the meal, mukhwas, is the most candy-laden I've ever seen . . . I hear rumours that czech likorice is highly prized, so maybe that is why . . . I don't turn it away, but a more traditional mix would be ok by me, too . . .

Kobe / Sushi Point Chodov Centrum

Kobe always brings us a small amuse bouche, they very from forgettable to very good . . . sometimes, in the ingracious way one looks at a gift one did not especially want, it seems they skimp as much as they can on these, if you see how I mean . . .

we love the miso shiru here, and compared to other sushi-mongers in town it often seems that Kobe is not among the best, but it would be very wrong to say that it is not the freshest, but sometimes: the preparation is not as expert as one would like and the presentation seems a little short-order-cookish . . . and personally, I wish never to see fake crab in my sushi . . . all that aside, we enjoy the Sushi Point Special very much . . . everything else being equal . . .

Las Adelitas, Prague

Finally! Made it to Las Adelitas for Posoler Jueves . . . 8^D . . .
It was everything we hoped for . . .
Spicy, porky, with hominy . . .
Red chili instead of green chili, like in New Mexico . . .

Lehka Hlava

Pleasured to sit in the back room, with the starlight ceiling . . . Love it . . .

A starter of guacamole.

Mrs had 'raw' spaghetti which is actually zucchini, instead of pasta, and of course a vegetarian sauce.

I had Cheddar  quesadillas . . . It's odd that this vegetarian place is the only place in prague we can get rat-trap cheddar and pinto beans . . . Excellent as always, with sylvanske zelene and Pi Voda . . .

Mozaika

Chicken leg stuffed with foie gras, au sous vide

I've run out of words, not just the superlatives, to describe the wonders of mozaika's sous vide . . .

Le Terroir

Le Terroir is a world-class place, no doubt about it . . .
If only for their armagnac & cognac selections, which are out of my price range . . . 8^D

The first amuse bouche was this foam with seafood and potato.

We had skipped lunch to make room for this dinner . . . Which we squandered on the wonderful breads . . . With our apertif' champagnes . . . 8^D

Another amuse bouche with salmon & sea-bass in a briny foam.

We were having the degustation menu, with suggested wine pairings -- the only way to go . . .

Goose Foie gras and pheasant with pistachio oil and pears . . .along with a 2006 Reisling from the Mosel River valley

Scallops, langoustines and pasta negra with baked garil and sauce of olive oil, with a 2008 meursault "Clos du Cromin", from Burgogne

Grilled fish with a ragout of white beans and zucchini, anchovies sauce . . . We both could've sworn the waiter said cray fish, but . . . .with a 2008 chateaneuf du pape, Cotes du Rhone . . . Never had a white chateaneuf before . . .didn't like it as much as the amazing reds we've had before . . . The fish in-and-of-itself was unassaillable . . .

Irsih lamb chop and sweetbread roasted in thyme butter, ravioloi stuffed with leek, with 2006 Bandol, from Provence . . . I love seafood, but this was my favorite for the evening . . . Prima gusto!

Valhona chocolate cake with cherries and crème fraiche . . . And there is obviously more going on than just that . . . With a little spanish sherry, of course . . .

Then coals-to-newcastle-wise, they brought some extra chocolate out . . . We had no shame by this point, ate it all . . .

Kobe, Chodov Centrum

The miso shiru continues to please,
Sometimes I just have to have some horka sake, instead of tea, especially since they quit serving 8 Treasures tea in a clear glass pot,
Mrs got the salmon and avocado salad that demonstrates once again, that what the restaurant excels at is not the beef nor even the sushi . . . Wonderful . . .
I got udan noodles with krevatami (prawns), the waitress confirmed with skrevatami, that threw me, I tho't I'd mispronounced it, which I had of course, but she was saying s krevatami, WITH prawns . . . 8^D . . . The udan here are also excellent...

Modry Zub, Narodni Trida

Spring rolls, pad thai, and paenang curry,

we have been very please each time at Modry Zub, when it used to seem kind of inconsistent . . .
