Modern, NYC

Oh, they're so full of themselves . . . THE Modern, just cuz it's next to the museum . . . . but OH WOW . . . 8^D

terrible effort in photos this night . . . so irritating . . . very few photos came out properly . . . this amuse bouche looks a little garish, when it was a very subtle & sophisticated fish & vegetarian spoons . . . followed by a choice test tube of cauliflower bisque . . . could have died happy right there . . .

they give you sweet & salty butter . . .

and anOTHER amuse bouche, a pureed brocolli with capers, jicama cubes, crunchies, oils . . . only 2 bytes worth . . . thank god . . . 8^D

its a 4-course fixed-price menu . . .

first,
Mrs got Dover Scallop, Yellowfin Tuna, and Scottish Salmon, seasoned 3 different ways . . . his normal amiable taciturnity descended into cosseted silence . . . 8^)

Nana had the seasonal greens salad . . .

I had Pralines of Foie Gras with mango puree and balsamic apostrophes .  . .8^D

S-I-L had the rabbit terrine, there's so much going on this plate, you could write a novel about it if you knew what you were talking about, starting with the green terrine . . . 8^D . . .

second,
Slow-poached Farm Egg with Black Winter Truffle, Salsify, and Squid Ink for Nana

Roasted Cobia (best picture of the night) for S-I-L, with Toasted Sesame Seeds, Tarragon, and Jalapeno Vinaigrette

Roasted Diver Scallops for me, with Morcilla sausage, Quince and Black Truffle Nage

Fennel and Cockle Veloute' with Spanner Crab "cru" for Mrs.

Third,
Roasted Main Lobster (Calvados, Spaghetti Squash, and Flavours of Autumn)

Beef Tenderloin "a la Ficelle" (Root Vegetables, Horseradish, and Verjus Pickled Juniper Berries)

Thomas Fram Rack of Lamb (Olive and Fines Herbes, Bacon Fondue, and Crisp Spring Onio) -- OMG . .. when they served it on the cart, the poured on the BACON FONDUE . . . I really kinda blacked out after that . . . there was more, but d-a-a-a-a-n-g . . .

Nana had Maple-Brined Berkshire Pork Tenderloin (crushed Walnuts, Mangalica Lardo, and Whole Grain Mustard jus . . .

Fourth,
I KNOW I had Majari Chocolate Palet (Tahitian Vanilla Cremeux and Salted Butter-Caramel Ice Cream), because of the Tahitian Vanilla . . . I don't know whether it's really all that or not, but I always go for it cuz it might be and I think it is, if you see how I mean . . . .apparently, so did Nana . .  .

S-I-L had the Apple-Pear Duo (Buttermilk Pancake, Pear-Quince Marmalade, Huckleberry Sorbet)

Mrs had the Mango Craquelin (Citrus Mousseline, Almond Spaghetti, Mango-Passion Fruit Sorbet)

Then they brought the entirely obligatory and unnecessary chocolates to close the meal . . . if you see how i mean . . .

THEN they brought tiny cones of citrus sorbet to really finish it off . . .

jeebus, just reciting the bare facts and reviewing the pictures makes me feel like Bacchus, never mind the Modern Martini I had while we waited for the table (Cilantro-infused Tanqueray Gin & fresh lime juice) . . . I mean . . . in my book, its not really a martini, but a Gimlet . . .but never mind. . . very, very good . . . 8^)

they deserve to be full of them selves . . . 8^)
