in our quest to sample Thai food across the globe, we hadda hit the Thai Buddha in Budapest . . .
our research into the "best" of Budapest was somewhat cursory: this was the closest we could find to our hotel, within walking distance . . . we like a little bubbly to go with our spicy thai food, but Torley is just toooooo sweet . . . there is excellent sparkling wine in Hungary, as good as prosecco, but Torley is not it . . . still, it was fine with the food, which was sufficiently spicy (after we told 'em to up the amperage) . . .
the soup tom kar kai had all the flavours we love -- the only critique I might make is that the bits of lemongrass & ginger were so small that they got in the way . . . I mean: like at Siam Orchid, in Prague, there is this much stuff in there, but it's of a size that makes it easy to avoid; I WANT that stuff in there, but I don't want to eat it . . .the photo doesn't do it justice, it was wonderful.
Mrs' kai khing (ginger chicken) was just fine, and the serving let her pick at her rice as much as she wanted to, to buff out the vegies and chicken . . . she's just not a fan of white rice ...
My pad thai was spot on. . . especially with the lime-squeezed-on . . . tofu, chicken, sprouts, peanuts, glass noodles, and spices, made a little-extra-spicy for me . . . mmmmmm.
