Krivoklat & Karlstejn

Krivoklat was mostly either a hunting lodge for the King of Bohemia or else a Prison . . . the tour includes several implements of torture . . . so a secondary site, no matter how interesting . . . the tour was all in czech tho' we did get an English precis' . . . Karlstejn was better, but they wouldn't let us take any pictures . . . fume, fume, fume .  .

we had a little picnic lunch between castles, on the walking path from the castle to the main parking lot . . . lots of smiles from people passing by, and 3 stopped and talked a bit . . . one guy had a cuisine in chi-ca-go. . . 8^D . . .

the little black sambo was from the snack booth at the castle . . . czechs don't have a prejudiced bone in the body -- based on colour -- is how they get by with that . . .

we stayed overnight at the Romanticky Hotel Mlyn across the river from the Castle . . . it was quaint and cute, but . . . no ac, close by the train tracks, and there was a wedding . . . we have experience with czech weddings . . . fortunately the reception was on the river side, so we didn't hear them raving on till dawn . . .8^D . . .

we had dinner at the hotel, on the river-side terrace . . . we had a rather mediocre prosecco. . . we ordered a starter of prosciutto with melon . . . what we got was prosciutto with soft white cheese & honey . . . it wasn't bad after we begged for some bread too . . . 8^) . . .

Mrs got salmon grilled in seaweed . . . she said the seaweed liked that certain je ne sais quois, the fish itself was quite good. . .

I had a Top Blade Steak from Texas bullock with chimichury sauce . . . a mistake, in my case, for I only care for tenderloin . . .

and one of the joys of summer dining out in cz are the bees/yellowjackets/hornets . . . we are actually becoming semi-blase about them . . . .

Barrock, Prague

Wandering Old Town wondering what to eat for lunch when it's so hot and we're tired of everything . . .

so never been to barrock walking past it a million times,
and they have the paris-like sidewalk cafe . . .
the prices are what you'd expect, but the quality of the food . . . meh . . .
Mrs' goulash was chewy, tho' the sauce was fine . . . and the potato pancakes were over-cooked.

My chicken schnitzel was ok / fine, but just so-what . . . the peculiar pickled cucumber was cut in huge long strands . . . a feat of some sort, but difficult to eat. I musta bin doin' it wrong. . .

Ambiente Pizza Nuovo

Just grabbing a couple of pizzas for lunch-snack so not to spoil our dinner . . .
never been to Ambiente Pizza, so hadda finally go . . .
Mrs had Margherita; I had Diavolo.
We ate half and saved half for lunch tomorrow.
We loved them but they seemed kinda soporific, like Thanksgiving Turkey.
Both times I fell into a comatose state and hadda take a nap . . .

Hergetova Cihelna, Prague

Well, to start with, one of the most prime river views in Prague . .  .8^)

started off with a little prosecco, as always . . .

then a few warm bread sticks with garlic, salt, & olive oil . . . difficult not to spoil the appetite!

Mrs had kachni stehno confit . . . she's now a convert . . .

I had the burger royale . . . with foie gras cooked within the burger . . . Homer Simpson moment . . . ngah, ngah, ngah . . . 8^D . . .

even with no starters, no room for dessert . . . but I had an 1984 Labaude Armagnac & expresso . . . wow, the 84 is w-a-a-a-ay better than the VSOP . . .

Java, Prague

After her extended vacation to the US & Canada, in addition to working in Bonn now, while still living in Prague, our friend was finally back in town . . . her relief to have a weekend in Prague could only be sweetened by assuaging her permanent home-sickness for Malaysia by a meal at Java . . . 8^D . . .

we mostly just let her order . . .

we hadn't been here in a year, were'nt so impressed with it last time; she said it was still the same, but the ambience seemed upgraded to me . . . white table cloths and soft mellow jazz playing, very comforting . . .

I see that Brewsta had been there in 2011, and his photos look like it does now, so my memory is faulty, I think. But he didn't like it very much. Similar to our first experience . . . I tho't this time was much better.

we ordered an Excellent bottle of Sylvanske Zelenina, even CPT, a very moderate drinker, tho't it was very nice.

I wish I'd taken notes.

They gave us a group of chutneys I will call them for lack of a better name, a chili, a tamarind-like, and a mango-like . . .all three excellent.

Had what I think is Balado Tofu. I just loved this, had so much flavour and texture, over and above just bean curd.

Had what I think is lontong gado-gado . . . the vegetables were still al dente and the sauce was pungent, good enough to me . . . the javanese knidliky are kind of a mind trip for me tho'. . . CPT says they're authentic . . . and we took 'em and dunked 'em into the peanut sauce from the sate . . . that was worth sumthin', SUMTHIN'.

KNOW that we had Nasi Gorent Istimewa, rice with shrimp . . . by the time I'd had enough of this I was scraping orts of rice out of the bottom of the bowl.

the bright red chili dish had two hard-boiled eggs buried under . . . we weren't that wild about the eggs, but CPT was rapt, so we had 'em . . . the chili sauce was wonderful . . . eggs is eggs, within a range of competence, if you know what I mean . . .

we enjoyed the chicken sate' very much . . . I've had a lot of mediocre sate around town, so much that maybe I don't know what good sate is anymore, but thot this was fine . . . some of the chicken bits were a little gristly, but no matter. the peanut sauce was divine, and went well on the javan knidliky . . .

dessert menu is virtually non-existant. no one else in the restaurant when we left, near 9pm on a friday . . . don't know how they can stay in business, but hope they do, we'll go back soon.

Farma Kosik, Prague

Cheese Plank,
Cabbage Soup, with a chorizo-like sausage that they make there . . . ummmmmmm . . .
salad, red cabbage shredded horse-radish, and the biggest gnochi I ever saw, with a texture like knidlicky . . .
roast duck & roast lamb, uhm, uhm, uhmmmmmm . . .
cherry sorbet with mint creme . . .
pigs & other sights around the farm . . .
