U Tri Ruze, for the beer, but not a burger

just on a walkabout during one of the false springs we've had this year in prague, and wound up u Tri Ruze, just because of the beer . . . the bock, for us, especially . . . so this time we had something besides hamburgers or ribs . . . I had the svickova, very fine . . . mrs had the duckleg with lots of veggies, very fine . . .

Narodni Gallerie, Prague

we try to go once a year, whether we need to or not .. . .
museum is huge, collection is large, but it doesn't change as much as one would expect, even so, there are things we have overlooked that surprise us each visit . .  .
we like the Capek Theatre Costumes.
and of course, the instantly recognizable Matisse nude sketches . . . and I love Joaquina . . .
Kees von Dongen always interests us . . . one is not sure he actually is a major talent, but we always consider it, if you know what I mean . . . .8^) . . .
the Kamil Lhotak portrain of the young man reclining in the desert caught my eye this time . . . I think I remember ignoring it before . . .
this is only a detail from a V.V.Modry painting Childhood . . . not like my childhood is all I would say . . . it alway amazes me how an artist can render an image so small in so few strokes
Jan Bauch "Sirens" and "Circus Rider" arrested my development for a while . . . we walked past and admired, but it wasn't till we had circled back around, and saw from further away that I wanted the picture . . .
These two by Karel Cerny, "the Lovers" and "the Mourners" interested me . . . din't photo very well, but I assert, aside from the inherent value, that this Cerny must be related to David Cerny, which gives them an even more interesting value . . .
the hand puppets in an ocean is called Potato Theatre, by Toyen . . . weird . . .

Osteria de Clara

for valentines day dinner with Mrs.
we started off and stayed with a very fizzy prosecco.
for starters we had tuna tartare (very good) and bruschetta (ok).
for primi platter we had seafood pasta (very, very good) and pesto pasta (ok).
for secondi platter we had salmon filet (ok) and duck breast (tough as a mediocre piece of beef, and tasted beef-y, if you see how I mean) . . .

we like Osteria de Clara, and the staff is unfailingly sweet & polite, but since it is so small and so hard to get into (need a reservation), we expect it to be perfect when we get there . . . and it just isn't . . .

James Dean Café, Prague

American Style 50s diner, with authentic looking booths, tables, & accoutrement & decorations -- not to mention the cute-as-a-button waitresses in period costume . . . we go there for breakfast . . . they have lunch & dinner items, burgers, shakes and such, but till the horsemeat scandal dies down . . . if you know what I mean . . .

the american breakfast with american bottomless cup-of-coffee seems the way to go, but you can order a la carte, if you prefer . . . all good . . .
