Da Vinci Deli, Old Lyme, RI

after the museum, we wanted to eat before we drove back to PVD . . . after some meandering, we wound up around the corner at Da Vinci Pizza, a hole-in-the-wall, mom-and-daughter operation . . . friendly, but not quite professional . . . lot of local walk-in traffic for pizza slices while we were there . . . my sandwich was unremarkable . . . not bad, tho' . . . the cheddar and horseradish chips were a hoot tho' . . . nothing else seemed blog-worthy . . .

after a week with our Two Year Old, he determined where we dined, some place we didn't care how they talked about us when we left, if you see how I mean . . . we still hoped for some measure of quality, tho' . . .

I had another Sam Addams Summer Seasonal ale, still good.

I had a SHiner Bock Sauce Burger . . . I can't say it's successful, but it may have just been the grey-ish burger, lacking the char one seeks on a burger, if you know what I mean . . . chips were good, tho' . . .

Mrs had a chicken salad . . . yawn . . .

Bitsy had a couple of sliders with fries . . . it looks as if her burgers were better cooked than mine . . . both she & mrs got tortilla soup with their meals . . . extinguished . . . if you see how I mean . . .

the portrait of the young woman was done by Samuel F.B. Morse, the inventor of Morse Code . . . amazing . . . what a renaissance man . . .

I don't know about you, but I feel elevated by this, er, idealized bust of feminine pulchritude . . . heh, heh, heh . . .

I like the womanscape in this Dali-lite effort.

I don't know if it's just intuitive or if its just because the Scream has been in the news lately that I grok what this painting is about . . .

I've gotten real attached to the Summer Seasonal Brew from Sam Adams, which uses malted wheat, lemon peel and Grains of Paradise, a rare pepper from Africa . . . cf. http://www.samueladams.com  . . .

 

ya gotta have some New England Clam Chowda while in, er, uh, New England . . . and Legal Seafood is the best . . .

 

I had some fried clams . . . Legal Seafood is the best, if I hadn't said that before . . .

 

Mrs. had a chicken salad, with a cup o' chowda . . .

 

Bitsy had salmon with spinach, with jalapeno polenta cooked like cornbread . . .

Capacino, herb "biscuit", seaonal muffin, greek yogurt with mango, egg sandwich on portugese roll, blueberry pancakes, two poached eggs . . .

 

all very, very fine in this very, very cozy neighborhood bakery
